Azalea - Pink and Sweet
Few landscape plants are more colorful than Pink and Sweet or offer as many opportunities for your landscape. Site selection is very important. Azaleas prefer light to moderate shade and watering newly planted azaleas is essential. Pink and Sweet performs best in well drained, acid, organic soil that maintains a uniform moisture level all year. It grows 4 feet wide and 3 feet wide. Their shallow roots will dry out quickly during periods of limited rainfall. This is especially true when planting in spring. Pink and Sweet Azalea, Rhododendron viscosum 'Pink and Sweet', extends the season with color since it is a late-blooming azalea. Dogwood - Greytwig Tolerant of city air pollution. The Gray Dogwood is a deciduous shrub which typically occurs in moist or rocky ground along streams, ponds, wet meadows, glade and prairie margins, thickets and rocky bluffs. Foliage turns an interesting dusky purplish red in fall. Excellent when planted in groups and left alone to spread in naturalized areas or native plant gardens. Red stem color is more easily seen after the fruits are gone, and red color often persists into early winter. Also effective in shrub borders, along streams or ponds or near buildings or when planted as a screen. Terminal stems holding the flowers are distinctively red and provide interesting contrast to the clusters of small white berries which form after the flowers have dropped. Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. It grows 10-15' tall and features white flowers borne in terminal racemes (hence the species name of racemosa) in late spring and grayish-green, elliptic to lance-shaped leaves (2-4" long). |
